Artist Statement

SY

SY is an indigenous artist based in Phoenix, AZ. Doing a variety of art mediums, but mostly does tattoos, paintings, drawings and murals. He was born and raised on the Navajo Nation and after graduating high school he went to pursue his education in art and got his associate's degree in art in 2020. He then transferred to ASU to get his bachelor's degree in art but dropped out the next semester, after dropping out he went to start his tattoo apprenticeship at Desert Bloom Tattoo & Salon in Phoenix. During his apprenticeship he was doing art shows, live painting events, and selling his art on the side while maintaining another full-time job to support his apprenticeship and art gigs. In the beginning of 2026, he decided to go back to school to finish his bachelor's in art after completing his tattoo apprenticeship and becoming a full-time artist in phoenix.
